Cyberpunk 2077 is not unfamiliar with celebrity voice actors, but if its sequel is to carry on the trend, there are some actors it should include.
CD Projekt RED has already confirmed that a full-length sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is in development.
While the majority of Cyberpunk 2077 ‘s vocal talents were dedicated voice actors, there is room for well-known actors to join the sequel’s cast, much like Keanu Reeves playing Johnny Silverhand.
Actors like Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hardy, and more would be perfect additions to the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.
The developer of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED, announced that the recently released Phantom Liberty DLC will be the game’s only expansion, and the studio is now directing their attention towards a full-length sequel, tentatively known as Project Orion. While Cyberpunk 2077 and the Phantom Liberty DLC did feature a few A-list cast members, the vast majority of the game’s vocal talents were provided by dedicated voice actors. Though this is a refreshing change from the incredible over-saturation of celebrities in media being employed over voice actors, there are a few incredibly well-known names that would make for perfect additions to a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.
Whether they are tried and tested veterans of video games or, have an extensive history of masterfully portraying characters that would be perfectly at home in Night City, many of modern cinema’s biggest stars could follow in Idris Elba and Keanu Reeves’ footsteps. Though there are countless actors versatile enough to fit the game’s gritty setting, there are a comparatively brief number that absolutely should lend their voices and personalities to a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.10Scarlett Johansson (The Avengers, Lost In Translation)
Previous Video Game Roles: The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie Game
The two-time Academy Awardnominee Scarlett Johansson is widely regarded as one of the world’s finest actors. Despite the undeniable fact that she has had an illustrious career on screen, her only foray into the field of voicing a video game came in 2004 with the video game adaptation of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. Johansson is regularly praised for her versatility, and ability to breathe a palpable sense of life into every character she portrays – Scarlett Johannsson’s acting prowess would make her a welcome addition to the cast in Cyberpunk 2077‘s sequel, no matter how that would manifest.
9. Tom Hardy (Venom, Mad Max: Fury Road)
Previous Video Game Roles: None
Since his early career, Tom Hardy has fostered a reputation as a master of portraying tough men and general badasses, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for The Revenant. Whether depicting the infamous Kray Twins in Legend, Max Rockatansky in Mad Max: Fury Road, or Eddie Brock in Venom, Hardy’s entire filmography clearly demonstrates that he would have the ability to be a wonderful addition to the cast of the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. Though his thick cockney accent is not a perfect fit for Night City, it could afford his in-game manifestation an added aura of toughness and streetwise charm – as it has done in so many films.
8. Ryan Gosling (La La Land, Drive)
Previous Video Game Roles: None
Though a talented actor and likely capable of excellently acting in almost any role, Ryan Gosling’s depiction of K in Blade Runner 2049 clearly demonstrated his talent for portraying characters in gritty Sci-Fi worlds – such as the one that Cyberpunk 2077‘s sequel will inevitably take place in. Although not regarded as a preternaturally versatile actor despite twice being nominated for Oscars, Ryan Gosling would undeniably be an excellent addition to the voice and motion cast of the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.
7. Gillian Anderson (The X-Files, The Crown)
Previous Video Game Roles: The X-Files Games, Squadron 42
Gillian Anderson is a criminally underrated actor, despite winning two Emmys, with the versatility to play either a sympathetic loving figure or a deplorable villain – furthermore, Anderson has demonstrated that she is talented enough to make the distinction between the two unclear. Though the vast majority of her work in video games took place in the late 1990s and early 2000s, it has been announced that Anderson is a cast member on the long-overdue Star Citizen spinoff, Squadron 42.
6. Lupita Nyong’o (Black Panther, Us)
Previous Video Game Roles: LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens
The Mexican-born Kenyan actor, Lupita Nyong’o, has demonstrated through her performances in films like Black Panther, Us, and 12 Years a Slave (for which she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress) that she is a phenomenal actor with a near-endless range of abilities. This versatility would make her a perfect candidate for a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. Though her only video game credit comes as part of the cast for Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Nyong’o has expressed her love of gaming in the past, and therefore may be interested in lending her abundant talents to CD Projekt RED as part of the voice cast for the upcoming game.
5. Oscar Isaac (Star Wars, Ex Machina)
Previous Video Game Roles: Disney Infinity 3.0, LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Regarded by some as one of the greatest actors of his generation, Oscar Isaac is the epitome of a versatile actor. The Golden Globe winner has played numerous nationalities, character types, and can exhibit a spectrum of emotions in a manner that is both impressive and convincing. Though he may not have the degree of name recognition or fame that certain other excellent actors possess, Oscar Isaac’s ability to masterfully perform heroic and villainous characters in a brilliantly understated yet highly impactful manner would make him a perfect addition to the gritty, dark, and often dangerous world of Night City.
4. Lena Headey (Game Of Thrones, 300)
Previous Video Game Roles: Game Of Thrones: A Telltale Game Series, Dishonored
Though Lena Headey is most generally known for her portrayal of Cersei Lannister on the HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones, which got her five Emmy nominations, the British actor has an impressive resume of performances, many of which are fairly reminiscent of the futuristic and action-packed scenes experienced in Cyberpunk 2077. Headey is not unfamiliar with providing vocal performances in video games, having worked on the 2009 ARPG Risen, Arkane Studios’ first Dishonored game, and the Telltale adaption of Game of Thrones. Though somewhat limited in range, especially with regard to accents, Headey is a talented actor with a reputation for playing villains – a character type that she could potentially reprise to great fanfare in Cyberpunk 2077‘s sequel.
3. Jon Bernthal (The Wolf Of Wall Street, Baby Driver)
Previous Video Game Roles: Manhunt, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands & Breakpoint
The star of Marvel’s The Punisher, Emmy nominee Jon Bernthal has fostered a reputation for playing hardened criminals, troublemakers, and tough guys. Though this overt typecasting may be disheartening to many actors, Bernthal has, on a number of occasions, explained that it doesn’t bother him. Bernthal’s go-to character type would be perfectly at home as a rough and ready gang leader on the streets of Night City, or perhaps he could make a cameo appearance as one of the main bosses’ hired thugs. Perfectly suited to the franchise, the opportunities to feature Jon Bernthal in a Cypberpunk 2077 sequel are seemingly endless.
2. Dave Bautista (Guardians Of The Galaxy, Blade Runner 2049)
Previous Video Game Roles: Many WWE Titles
At one time, Dave Bautista was the face of WWE, a position he abandoned in favor of a career in Hollywood. Though many muscular hardmen from the world of professional wrestling have attempted to make the leap to movies, few have done so with as much success as Dave “the Animal” Bautista. Tall, muscular, and heavily covered in tattoos, Bautista would make for a perfect voice and movement actor in the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. Though his physique would indicate that he would make for a villain, Bautista is a talented and versatile actor who would be well suited to a position helping the player during their perilous adventure.
1. Keanu Reeves (The Matrix, John Wick)
Previous Video Game Roles: Cyberpunk 2077, Enter The Matrix
Though he is not on the cover, Keanu Reeves is undeniably the face of Cyberpunk 2077. The legendary leading man of many of the biggest films of the past four decades, Reeves reprising his role in Project Orion would be an incredible boon the game. Reeves’ performance as Johnny Silverhand was, for many, the highlight of Cyberpunk 2077, and quite possibly one of the factors that helped the game survive its early stumbling blocks. If the Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel is set to have a star-studded voice cast, Keanu Reeves is one actor who should definitely be in it.
